About Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness is the direct narrative sequel to Pokémon Colosseum, delivering a refined and expansive 3D RPG experience on the Nintendo GameCube (GCN). Set five years after the original, the story follows a young Trainer named Michael as he battles a resurgent Team Cipher and their new "XD" (Extra-Dimension) project—a process designed to create Shadow Pokémon that are theoretically impossible to purify. The gameplay is defined by the quest to save the ultimate Shadow Pokémon, Lugia (codenamed XD001), while utilizing the Snag Machine to rescue 83 different Shadow creatures. This entry introduced several mechanical improvements over its predecessor, including the ability to Snag multiple Pokémon in a single encounter and the addition of Poké Spots, which allow players to encounter and catch wild Pokémon in the Orre region for the first time.

On the GCN hardware, the title features a more robust purification system, including the Purify Chamber, where players can automate the cleansing of Shadow Pokémon by arranging their party based on type advantages. The game also includes the "Bingo Battle" and "Realgam Tower" modes, providing high-level post-game challenges that test a Trainer's tactical depth. Like its predecessor, Pokémon XD serves as a critical bridge for the third-generation library, allowing for full connectivity with Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen via the GBA-to-GameCube Link Cable. Whether you are cleansing the corruption from Shadow Lugia in the main campaign or transferring rare Pokémon to your handheld collection on the original GCN, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness remains a definitive and polished peak for the Orre saga.
