Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II is an expanded 2002 port of the landmark Dreamcast MMORPG, released for the GameCube (GCN) and Xbox. It follows hunters on a mission to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of the pioneer ship Pioneer 1 on the planet Ragol. This version introduces Episode II, featuring entirely new biomes like the VR Temple and Central Control Area, alongside three new character classes (HUcasceal, RAmarl, and FOmar). The core gameplay centers on 4-player cooperative dungeon crawling, rare item hunting, and "Mag" evolution. While primarily an online experience, both console versions support offline 4-player split-screen—a feature that remains a major draw for local cooperative play.

The differences between the two versions are significant, especially for collectors and hardware enthusiasts. The Xbox version is technically superior in several ways: it supports 480p and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, features slightly sharper textures, and boasts faster loading times due to the internal hard drive.
