About Pac-Man World Rally
Pac-Man World Rally is a 2006 kart racing title developed by Smart Bomb Interactive and published by Namco Bandai for the PlayStation 2 (PS2), GameCube (GCN), Xbox, PC, and PlayStation Portable (PSP). Similar to other mascots in the genre, the game pits characters from the Pac-Man universe and other Namco properties—such as Mr. Driller and the Prince from Katamari Damacy—against one another in high-speed races. The primary mechanic involves collecting Pac-Dots to fill a meter; once full, the player transforms into the iconic Pac-Mobile, becoming temporarily invulnerable and capable of eating opponents. Tracks are designed around various Namco themes and feature interactive shortcuts that can only be accessed by collecting specific fruit items throughout the race.
A notable aspect of this release is that the handheld version contains significantly more content than the home console editions. The PSP version includes two exclusive characters (Mappy and Mr. Driller), an extra race track based on Dig Dug called "Subterranean Speedway," and two additional battle arenas. It also features a unique "Challenges" mode with time-based letter hunts and collection trials. However, to accommodate the hardware, the PSP version limits the number of racers on track to five, whereas the Xbox, PS2, and GameCube versions support up to eight. Among the home consoles, the Xbox version is often cited for its superior technical performance, offering 480p support and more consistent frame rates during chaotic weapon exchanges. Whether you are aiming for a Level 2 Gamebreaker on your PSP or navigating the Retro Maze on your GameCube, Pac-Man World Rally is a vibrant celebration of Namco's arcade heritage.
