About Nintendo Puzzle Collection

Nintendo Puzzle Collection is a 2003 Japan-exclusive compilation developed by Intelligent Systems and Nintendo Software Technology. The disc brings together three iconic franchises: Dr. Mario, Yoshi's Cookie, and Panel de Pon (known in the West as Tetris Attack or Puzzle League). While originally intended for a global release under the name "Masterpiece Puzzle Collection," it ultimately remained a Japanese boutique item. The collection features updated graphics, high-quality soundtracks, and a unified interface, while introducing four-player local multiplayer to all three titles—a first for several of these games. In multiplayer sessions, eliminated players can even participate in a separate side-game while waiting for the match to conclude, ensuring continuous engagement.

The collection is widely recognized for its robust GameCube-to-GBA connectivity features. By using the GBA Link Cable, players can use their handheld as a controller or, more impressively, download standalone versions of all three games directly to the Game Boy Advance. These downloadable versions are stored in the GBA's RAM, allowing them to be played even after disconnecting the cable until the handheld is powered off. Notably, the version of Panel de Pon included is a finished port of the unreleased Nintendo 64 title "Panel de Pon 64," which originally served as the engine for North America’s Pokémon Puzzle League. Whether you are aiming for a high score in the 3D mode of Panel de Pon or downloading a portable round of Dr. Mario for the road, this collection is a essential piece of history for puzzle enthusiasts and importers alike.
