About Medal of Honor: Rising Sun

Medal of Honor: Rising Sun is a 2003 first-person shooter developed by EA Los Angeles for the PlayStation 2 (PS2), GameCube (GCN), and Xbox. Shifting focus to the Pacific Theater of WWII, players take the role of Marine Corporal Joseph Griffin, beginning with the attack on Pearl Harbor and continuing through the Philippines and Guadalcanal. The game introduces a two-player cooperative campaign mode—a significant addition to the series—allowing friends to play through the story missions together. Gameplay remains focused on authentic weapons and objective-based levels, but introduces more environmental variety, such as dense jungles and nighttime infiltration missions.

Technical performance varies notably across the consoles. The Xbox version is generally considered the smoothest, offering 480p support and more stable frame rates during high-action sequences. The PlayStation 2 version was unique at launch for its online multiplayer component, which supported up to eight players via the Network Adaptor, while the GameCube and Xbox versions were limited to 4-player local split-screen. The GameCube version is often noted for having slightly faster loading times than the PS2 but occasionally struggles with frame rate dips in heavy foliage areas. Unlike its predecessor, Frontline, this entry includes mid-level save points (radios) to alleviate the difficulty of its nine sprawling missions. Whether you are defending the USS California on your GCN or engaging in 4-player deathmatch on your Xbox, Rising Sun offers a cinematic look at the war in the Pacific.
