About Mario Power Tennis
Mario Power Tennis is a sports title developed by Camelot Software Planning and released for the Nintendo GameCube (GCN / NGC) in 2004. Building on the mechanics of the N64 original, it introduces "Power Shots"—character-specific moves categorized as Offensive (powerful strikes that can stun or knock back opponents) and Defensive (emergency saves that can return balls from anywhere on the court). The gameplay relies on a refined "three-click" system where the A and B buttons are used for topspin, slice, flat, and lob shots, with double-tapping providing extra power. The roster features 18 characters, including newcomers Bowser Jr. and Petey Piranha, each categorized by playstyles like Power, Speed, or Technical.
On the GameCube hardware, the game runs at 60 FPS and features detailed character animations for every unique Power Shot and celebratory victory sequence. A major addition is the Gimmick Courts, which introduce environmental hazards from the Mario universe, such as moving conveyor belts in Wario’s Factory or ghosts that leave banana peels in the Luigi’s Mansion court. The game also includes several "Special Games," such as Artist on the Court and Mecha-Bowser Mayhem, which use tennis mechanics to solve puzzles or defeat bosses. Unlike its predecessor on the N64 or its contemporary Mario Golf, this title does not support connectivity with its GBA counterpart, Mario Tennis: Power Tour. Whether you are timing a smash on a standard court or managing the chaotic hazards of Delfino Plaza, Mario Power Tennis focuses on high-energy arcade action and tactical special move management.
