About Legends of Wrestling II
Legends of Wrestling II is a professional wrestling title developed by Acclaim Studios Salt Lake City and released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2 (PS2), GameCube (GCN), and Xbox, with a specialized version for the Game Boy Advance (GBA). Expanding on the first entry, the roster grows to over 65 legends, including the additions of Andre the Giant, Eddie Guerrero, and a surreal appearance by comedian Andy Kaufman. The core mechanic remains the "Intermediate Start Position" (ISP) system, which uses timed button presses during grapples to chain moves together or perform reversals. A new "Excitement Meter" rewards players for varied and risky maneuvers rather than just winning quickly.
The console versions (PS2, GCN, Xbox) are largely identical in content but vary in technical presentation. The Xbox version supports 480p and features the cleanest textures, while the PS2 and Xbox editions include exclusive video interviews with the legends. The GameCube version lacks these videos due to disc space but maintains consistent frame rates during the new 6- and 8-man elimination matches. The Career Mode is restructured around a global territory system where players earn "coins" to purchase unlocked legends and promoters in the Shop Mode. The GBA version is a separate 2.5D isometric experience that manages to fit the entire 65-man roster into the cartridge, though it is often noted for its stiff animations compared to the 3D counterparts. This title stands out for its deep appreciation of wrestling lore, offering four distinct historical attires for every character. Whether you are reliving the Lawler-Kaufman feud on your PS2 or defending the World Heavyweight Title on your GCN, Legends of Wrestling II focuses on historical accuracy and expanded match variety.
