About Legends of Wrestling

Legends of Wrestling is a professional wrestling title developed by Acclaim Studios Salt Lake City and released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2 (PS2), followed by GameCube (GCN) and Xbox versions in 2002. Moving away from the licensed WWE or WCW properties, the game features a roster of independent and retired icons such as Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, and Jerry Lawler. The gameplay is built on a "Link Meter" combo system, where players time button presses during grapples to chain multiple maneuvers together. While the roster is celebrated for its historical breadth, the controls are frequently noted for being slower and more deliberate than contemporaries like the SmackDown series.

Across the PS2, Xbox, and GCN hardware, the experience is largely consistent, though the Xbox and GameCube versions—releasing months after the PS2 debut—feature slight visual refinements and faster loading times. The Xbox version is noted for its sharper textures and 480p support. The career mode follows a territory-based system where players travel through five regional divisions to unlock hidden wrestlers and promoters. The GameCube version supports the GBA-to-GCN link for specific data transfers, while the PS2 version utilizes the Multitap to allow up to five players simultaneously. This entry remains unique for its "bulky" art style and the inclusion of wrestlers who were rarely seen in games during that era. Whether you are performing a Sharpshooter on your PS2 or defending a regional belt on your GCN, Legends of Wrestling focuses on nostalgia and a deep, historical lineup.
