Battlefield 2142 (also recognized as BF2142) is a visionary first-person shooter that shifted the series' tactical warfare from historical battlefields to a frozen, high-tech future. Developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts (EA), the game was released in 2006 for Windows PC, followed by a Mac OS X version in 2007. Set in the 22nd century during a new ice age, the narrative depicts a desperate global struggle between the European Union (EU) and the Pan Asian Coalition (PAC) over the world's last remaining habitable land near the equator.
Across the PC and Mac platforms, the gameplay is most famous for introducing the "Titan" mode, a multi-stage objective where teams must capture missile silos to weaken the shields of the enemy's massive flying warship.
