About Bad Boys: Miami Takedown | Bad Boys II
Bad Boys: Miami Takedown (also recognized as Bad Boys II in Europe) is an explosive third-person shooter that attempts to translate the high-octane "Bayhem" of the film franchise into an interactive experience. Developed by Blitz Games and published by Empire Interactive and Crave Entertainment, the game was released for the Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2), Original Xbox, Nintendo GameCube (NGC), and Windows PC. Set between the events of the second and third films, the narrative follows TNT (Tactical Narcotics Team) detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett as they wage a brutal war against a drug cartel across 15 action-packed stages, ranging from the neon-soaked streets of Miami to a high-stakes standoff in Cuba.
Across the various platforms, the gameplay is characterized by its "Cover Mode," a mechanic that allows players to snap to environmental objects and transition into a first-person aiming perspective to dispatch enemies. The PS2 and Xbox versions are frequently noted for their arcade-style "Bad Boy" rating system, which rewards players for accuracy, disarming suspects, and collateral damage (or lack thereof) to earn points and unlock weapon upgrades. The PC version is celebrated for its significantly higher resolution and sharper textures, which provide a cleaner look to the destructible environments, though it lacks the rumble feedback of its console counterparts. Interestingly, while the character models utilize the likenesses of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the voices were provided by sound-alikes, a common trait for licensed titles of the era. Despite its mixed critical reception, the game is remembered for its over-the-top action sequences and its attempt to capture the banter and aggressive energy of its source material. Whether you are dual-wielding pistols as Mike or providing tactical cover as Marcus, Bad Boys: Miami Takedown remains a definitive and stylized relic of the mid-2000s licensed action genre.
