70's Robot Anime Geppy-X
A love letter to the "Super Robot" era of the 1970s, 70's Robot Anime Geppy-X (1999) is more than just a side-scrolling shoot-'em-up; it is a meticulously crafted parody and tribute to classics like Mazinger Z and Getter Robo. Developed by Aroma, the game is spread across four discs, structured exactly like a 1970s TV anime series. Each level is presented as an "episode," complete with its own title card, commercial bumpers, mid-episode "eyecatchers," and even a preview for the next episode. You pilot the Geppy-X, a transforming robot that can switch between three distinct forms to handle different combat situations, all while a high-energy soundtrack—featuring legendary anime singer Isao Sasaki—blasts in the background.
