3Xtreme

Closing out the trilogy on the original PlayStation, 3Xtreme (released in 1999) was the most ambitious—and technically controversial—entry in the series. While the previous two games used 2D sprites for characters, 3Xtreme made the jump to fully 3D polygonal models. It retained the core "combat racing" DNA, letting you compete on BMX bikes, skateboards, and inline skates while punching and kicking your way through 27 sprawling tracks. Despite the mixed critical reception due to its "clunky" 3D physics compared to the smooth sprites of the past, it remains a cult classic for its sheer volume of content, featuring over 270 tricks and the motion-captured likenesses of X-Games legends like Andy Macdonald.
