A launch-day pioneer for the PlayStation, 1Xtreme (originally released as ESPN Extreme Games) brought the counter-culture energy of the mid-90s X-Games to consoles and PC. It’s essentially "Road Rash with a skateboard," blending high-speed racing across five global locations—including San Francisco and the Italian Alps—with brutal combat. Whether you're on a mountain bike, street luge, or inline skates, the goal is to cross the finish line by any means necessary, which usually involves kicking a rival into a brick wall or punching them into oncoming traffic. The game is famous for its rebranding history; when the ESPN license expired, Sony re-released it as 1Xtreme for the Greatest Hits line, stripping away the ESPN logos and the iconic (and often insulting) post-race pep talks from reporter Suzy Kolber.
